Dear Parent/Guardians,

The purpose of this letter is to share our plan to complete the Higher Learning Opportunity survey with our 8^th graders on Thursday, October 6.

Our guidance counselors will facilitate the completion of the survey in the following manner:

·         Students will complete the 5-10 minute survey in our lab in the library.  This format will allow any students who have opted out to remain on team in their classroom.  We developed this plan to reduce the amount of classroom disruption and to maximize time in the classrooms.

If you wish to opt your student out of the survey, please send in your letter or email by Wednesday, October 5.

Carrabba's Night - 9/29/16

We hope you were able to learn about our school at our open house evenings last week.  If you could not attend, please take a look at our website, team pages and Twitter account. If you have any questions please reach out to a member of the admin team, guidance or your student's team of teachers.

We have picture day this week - Wednesday 9/28.  Picture forms were sent home last week.  If you still need a form we have extra copies available in the office.

10/7/16 - First School Dance

10/10/16 - No school - Columbus Day

Please join us for our first PSG meeting for this school year on Monday 9/19.  The meeting will start at 6:30 and will meet in the cafe.  We hope you can join us!

We will host our Open House Events this week.  We are looking forward to welcoming you to our school so you can learn about your student's Southside experience.  Please join us in the gym at 6:30 for our opening remarks.  Following the opening remarks, you will be able to visit the team locations, information tables in the gym and our Unified Arts classrooms.

• Grades 7&8 - Thursday 9/22 at 6:30

Our Fall Sports teams are representing our School in amazing fashion.  While the teams are performing in commendable fashion we are extremely pleased with the level of sportsmanship we have observed on the courts and fields.  Our student athletes have displayed our 3-C's (Character - Citizenship - Community) with true Spartan Pride!

We had an outstanding start to the school year!  We are thrilled to have such a great group of students!  I want to share a few updates to help in the coming year:

• Student Agendas - Please remember to check your student's team page on our website for team updates and homework. The team pages are a great tool when used with the student's agenda. Each student in our school received a 2016-2017, Southside agenda last week.  Please help your student get into the routine of using their agenda.
• Traffic - Please remember to drop off on the school side of Jewett St.  Our traffic is tight in the morning and afternoon, please be mindful of the cross walks and the signs that state where cars are allowed. Please do not drive into the staff parking lot, the area by the dumpsters or the exit for our bus lines.  
• Open House Events - Grade 6 on 9/21 at 6:30 and Grades 7&8 on 9/22 at 6:30.  We hope you can join us to tour our school and meet your student's team teachers.  
• No School on 9/13
• Parent Group Meeting - The first meeting of the year will be on 9/19 at 6:30 in the cafe.  We would love to have you join us as we discuss plans for the school year.
